Helping my students learn the appropriate self-regulation and coping strategies necessary to function within the school setting will allow them to be successful in the general education setting and in turn, give my students a chance to feel a sense of accomplishment and gain self-esteem. By teaching these strategies in the special education setting, and by providing workbooks and games, the students will eventually be able to generalize these skills to use them in the general education setting as well as out within the community. Everyone wants to see people grow and excel in areas that were once difficult. Aligning these appropriate behaviors with everyday activities gives my students the opportunity to be independent in environments where, in the past, they may not have had the chance.

About my class
