Materials for this project will be used to help facilitate the creation/maintenance of a series of raised garden beds, garden plots for each grade level (K-5) and large pollinator garden to foster the understanding of our natural environment and agriculture. Students will create, plant, care for and harvest fruits, vegetables and flowers while observing, first hand the various life cycles, food chains and food webs, and biodiversity, fostering empathy for all living things and stewardship. Our school population is 67 percent low income. This project will give our students a sense of pride and accomplishment by knowing that they can apply what they have learned at school in their home environments -growing their own gardens/food.
