I teach a rather extensive unit over animals and their interactions with their environment. Having a bioactive terrarium in the classroom would be an awesome way to let students actively see all of the things multiple living organisms need in their habitat. It is also a great project to research and study how living things in the terrarium environment interact with each other. For example, we could look into adding different plants that would maybe be found in a crested gecko's environment (if that is the animal they choose is best for the terrarium through research). The students would build the ecosystem as we go through each part of what resources are in them. Since this is pretty much a self-sustaining system, it would only need to be cleaned yearly. This would allow me to use it for multiple years. Students would also help with food, temperature controls, humidity levels, etc.
