In recent years the play has been taken out of kindergarten and that has left major gaps in students social emotional and literacy learning. This project will allow me to continue letting my students play to learn by giving them some of the materials they need. Bringing play back into the classroom is best practice but there is little funding to provide materials. My students deserve to play to learn and use social skills. Students will use the costumes and puppets in the dramatic play area where they are practicing social skills such as sharing, problem solving, and empathy. Students will be able to let their creativity shine while they role play in the drama center. Students will use the storytelling kit activities to practice important literacy skills in the storytelling center by re-telling familiar stories or creating their own unique stories. Students language development will soar as they create and recreate stories.
