Kindergarten students love to read non-fiction books with great pictures. The National Geographic Readers comes in several levels so all students can be engaged. With our research unit students use books to find facts and learn how to use non-fiction text features to improve their writing. Kindergarten teaches not only academics but also social emotional learning. Our class filled with different levels of both. Learning how to be a good person and how to handle emotions is a life skill that will carry them through their adult years. Having books to use as examples to set up activities and discussions is a good starting point in teaching students these critical skills.
