My students have little background knowledge about the world outside of their neighborhood. Having actual books to learn from would give them the opportunity to make connections to events in the world and provide them with a vocabulary and text-rich experience to support their success in Reading class as well as other content areas. Reading a novel from cover to cover and imagining a world beyond their own home will give my students an invaluable opportunity to expand their minds. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to guide students on their quest to be successful, lifelong, learners.
