Bean bag chairs help students feel safe and secure when having big feelings. In addition, these are different from our typical classroom seating and will hopefully encourage ease when having difficulty. Sensory objects help students with fidgeting and often allow a more free flow of conversation about difficult topics. Often, these items help jump-start= a conversation when it is the student's first meeting with the counselor. All items will help establish a first-class student-centered counseling room. As a first-year counselor, I've been able to add to my curriculum mostly, and these hands-on items help provide ease and comfort to students dealing with distress.
