These materials will help students deal with situations they are going through by giving them resources that are not available to them in another way. They will give literary representation to LGBTQ+ students where they might not read about characters like them otherwise. These students face many issues such as bullying, threats of abandonment, and worry that they are unloved or unworthy. Having these resources available to them for free will be monumental in helping them learn to be their true selves inside and out. Representation in literature and mainstream media is important to all kids. Having book characters that look/act/feel the way they do will help their mental health and make the conversations about sexuality and gender identity easier to have.
