This hallmark event is meant to honor and show our appreciation on the to all who served valiantly in the FDNY, NYPD and sacrificed their lives on that day. It seems fitting to have the students create a living memorial by portraying the historic photo of the three firefighters hoisting the US Flag above the pile at Ground Zero. They will use foam blocks, paint and other material to realistically recreate "the pile". This living memorial, portrayed by students donning fire gear, will include a monument bearing the name of each victim that fell on 9/11. Theses names will be read aloud followed by the tolling of a bell throughout the event. The event will also feature a student built museum that highlights the timeline of events that unfolded on that fateful day among other ceremonial touches. The students will also plan and create a permanent memorial garden to forever mark the sacrifice of America's bravest. At the center will be a Callery pear tree which is now known as the “Survivor Tree” after enduring the September 11, 2001 terror attacks at the World Trade Center.
