I teach an inclusion class, which is made up of special education students as well as general education students. Many of my students have a difficult time staying seated in typical chairs because they feel the need to move. I encourage this movement, as it helps them stay engaged and control sensory stimuli. Whether we are learning motions to help remember key concepts, dancing, or just getting our wiggles out, I feel that this physical movement is beneficial to them. Flexible seating has been proven to help students manage their sensory needs while staying engaged in the classroom. We currently have 2 wobble stools in our classroom, and the students are ALWAYS hoping to get a turn with them. I would love to have enough stools for all students to take turns with them daily.
