In the seven years of teaching 2nd grade, I spend 5-7 minutes of the math time to go over the calendar, believe it or not majority of these second graders still get confused with days of the week, writing the date, and counting days, months and weeks. I feel this is a long life skill that a person needs and will continue to use as they progress in school. I saw that the calendar also includes money, which is beneficial for the students to know the difference between coins, because again it is a life skill that students will continue to use no matter what age or grade.
