For the past 6 years my students and I have worked on a project that our school calls 'Dancers Among Us'. Students at our school get to dance their school curriculum from kindergarten to 6th grade. Kids learn to see the power of movement in learning and in expression.
These iPad minis will make it possible for kids to not only capture and record their creative and artistic discoveries, but will help empower them with a sense of self and the ability to find art in everyday life! As 5th graders they get the opportunity to work in groups and go out as dancers and explore the space and their school, both indoors and outdoors. They photograph and film artistic and creative ways to capture movement in their native space. We base our project and study ideas from the author's book 'Dancers Among Us-A Celebration of Joy in the Everyday' by Jordan Matter. The photos taken by the students are then printed on posters and displayed for the entire next year. It is a project the students look forward to for years.
Unfortunately we only have some iPods that are over 10 years old to try to accomplish this. With the change in technology this has become more challenging every year. This project has been a great success, but we need the newer technology to make it possible. As a teacher who loves her students, I ask for your help and support in making this possible.
