With my seventh and eighth grade Learning For Life Class students, I would like us to plant a poppy garden for out annual Veterans Day Assembly. Part of the National Standards for 5-8th grade students in Civics and Government is, "What is Civic Life?", "What values and principals are basic to American constitutional democracy?", "What is citizenship?", "What are the responsibilities of citizens?", and "How can citizens take part in civic life?". When students take part in creating this Veterans Day Hydroponic Garden they will be kinetically involved in a project that is to show honor to the men and women in the military, that have served our country whether in active war or times of peace, in order to protect and serve our civil liberties. Materials needed: A Hydroponic Indoor Farm. This project will involve approximately 20 students during the 4th Nine Weeks of the 2019-2020 school year. It will bring learning alive for these students as we not only plant something that will be appreciated by the Veterans and their families attending our annual assembly next November 2020, but it will help students to bring meaning and understanding of why citizens should be involved with their community.
