Our building is very old and in desperate need of repair. Many of the desk are cracked and damaged beyond repair. It is important that my students walk into a classroom that feels inviting and comfortable. They deserve more than what they currently have available to them! The materials that I have selected for our classroom will make a difference in my students' learning because flexible seating allows my students to work collaboratively or independently in comfort. Some of my students are distracted by the discomfort of a traditional desk. The bean bag loungers would provide an alternate space in which they are able to stretch their legs out or curl up with a book or their assignment. The rocker seats will allow those students who need to move in order to get their creative energy flowing an acceptable option. Flexible seating provides choice to students. Many students feel that their voice or needs are lost in today's academic settings. Students know how they learn best, and allowing them to have choice in where they complete their assignments is an option that I would like to incorporate in my classroom. Flexible seating also builds community in the classroom. It provides a safe place for students to collaborate in common areas. Lastly, the aquarium provides a sense of ambiance and relaxation to the room as well as a home to our two aquatic turtles. My students are enthralled by live animals and have shown great maturity and responsibility in caring for our classroom pets. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated in helping us reach this goal!
