Although my school district is one of the poorest in the area, that doesn't stop us from thriving where ever we can. I am fortunate to work with some of the most creative, hardworking junior high students who push themselves to become better writers and readers. From participating in literature festivals to submitting entries to writing contests, it's clear that my students have a passion and interest in the language arts. I am thankful that I have been able to provide my students with these opportunities, and I plan to continue to give them these experiences.
By receiving this funding through DonorsChoose, my students will have the opportunity to explore new worlds and analyze literary works in a whole new way. Being able to provide my students newer contemporary literary works, they can make connections to characters on a more personal level and for my students who may not appreciate reading as much, they may grow an appreciation for reading through the two classroom sets I have selected for this project. "The Hunger Games" is a great text that reflects a lot of major themes that students can relate to today, and exploring graphic novels through the works of Edgar Allan Poe will introduce students to a whole new visionary world of literature.
