My students live in a high poverty community in a rather large inner-city. They have limited access to resources outside of their neighborhood, and I fear that without the right supports, some of them may fall behind in the grand scheme of things. In particular, I'm trying to provide as much assistance as I can to a handful of my students who are reading significantly below their targeted reading level. In addition to the students who are below their targeted reading level, we have one student who only speaks French. With very limited supports within the school for this student, I'm seeking to find additional ways to get this student to gain confidence and knowledge in her ability to speak English, as she has already proven that she has a great level of intelligence in the subject of mathematics.
