Investing early in the financial literacy of our students promotes a path to creating positive long-term habits. However, it is a subject where a lack of resources means our kids are missing out on this important part of their education. The resources selected will introduce students to the importance of wants vs. needs, earning, saving, spending, and donating money to help others. The fiction stories selected allow students to step inside a character’s shoes to experience tough money situations and decisions while the non-fiction titles will give them the facts they need to know to become financially literate. These award winning titles teach our students the value of hard work to earn money, the importance of saving, being empathetic to the hardships of others, and having resilience during hard times. All the titles selected support the economics and financial literacy standards for our K-5 students.
