My students are a highly motivated group of young men that demonstrate a significant need to develop their reading skills. They attend a Title I school located in an impoverished neighborhood in the Bay area of Florida. As is typical of many Title I schools like ours, academics have to be highly engaging in order to compete with the extra curricular activities the students are allowed to engage in during non-school hours. Each of them consistently demonstrates a desire and a will to succeed despite the world around them. They have very good attendance percentages and give their best efforts when asked to do something, regardless of the obstacles in front of them.
