The project goal is to bring curriculum to life in the eyes of the students. A set of 5 mobile VR units preloaded with the Google Expedition app will bring the world into the classroom. These stand alone VR units are designed for students and come complete with hardware, software, and curriculum linked activities and lessons. A set will allow small groups of students to share the VR experience while maintaining cost effectiveness. The engagement of virtual reality (VR) joined to curriculum content enhances early learning experiences. VR is a powerful tool that gets students outside the classroom without actually leaving the classroom. Students are involved in a visual sensory experience exploring iconic landmarks, atoms, and outer-space. The teacher acts a guide and leads groups of explorers through a VR tour. Imagine students immersed in literature as they tour the scenes from a novel. On a microscopic level, visualize students exploring plant and animal cells through virtual touring inside an organism. Rather than reading about the phases of the moon, envision students exploring the moon with the first astronauts. Imagine students traveling to the seven wonders of the world, visiting the 9/11 memorial, and viewing the Aurora Borealis natural light show. Engaging and immersive personal experiences benefit students who struggle to focus and retain information. VR tied to content in a meaningful way will enrich the learning experiences for all of our students.
