I am currently teaching at RR Elementary. We just became a Spanish immersion program and I have two classes of 26 students that I teach Spanish to. One of the goals of our program is for students to become fluent speakers and readers of the Spanish language. Most of my students come from families that have no access to technology and have little to no time to read with their child. They are hard-working students that are highly motivated when it comes to learning Spanish. Due to our current schedule, I am only able to work with them in small groups for 17 minutes a day. We do learning stations and it would be a great opportunity for them to be able to use our class computers to record themselves while reading and for practice speaking Spanish. For the native Spanish speakers in my class, this extra reading practice will make them fluent readers. That practice will bring our school one step closer to closing the achievement gap for these students of need.
