My students are struggling with basic skills like letter recognition, number recognition, phonemic awareness and basic math skills. I am piloting this program and my vision includes having effective learning centers. Typically, I start out with a whole group lesson and then I divide the group into mini groups which range from 2-4 students. I have created and purchased some games and I have worksheets and some preferred materials. I know the more modalities I can teach this groups of diverse learners the better. The "Circle Time" chart is going to be invaluable for all of my students. Seventy-five percent of my students, who are grade K-3, do not know the days of the week or the months of the year in either language. I have a group of ELL learners that are also challenged with intellectual disabilities and various other deficits. I know from my experience with both mild/moderate and moderate/severe disabilities that the more modalities I can target, the more likely my students will get the "a-ha" moment. This is the magic that happens when you discover how they learn. I have also always tried to foster curiosity and make learning fun. All of the materials that I am asking for will give my kiddos access to a curriculum that has formerly eluded them and battered their self esteem at times. My students love coming to the Learning Center. My vision has been to create interactive centers and continue to make my Learning Center a success!
