When thinking back to what you remember from elementary school, the projects are what you remember! Why? Because that is when you are able to create and apply what you are learning in a fun way! However, as students get older, it is hard to motivate students to read, write, and talk about what they are learning about in school. Student motivation and engagement are requirements for academic success! Having an iPad in our classroom would be a tremendous motivational tool to benefit my EL students and enable my students to create, collaborate, and develop their language skills. Having an iPad for my students to use will provide a motivational tool for facilitating learning as students make meaning through personal choice, collaboration, participation, and creativity using digital tools to create and share their learning with others! My EL students benefit from interactive projects that they can show their learning while practicing oral language! Providing an iPad to my students would allow students to strengthen their language skills and take charge of their own learning. There are so many tools and apps that can help students document their learning to add to their digital portfolio and share it with their peers and families! Using tools such as the camera, translator apps, book creator, drawing canvas, and voice recorder, allows students to create, draw, record audio, take pictures and shoot video to improve their language skills! It is surprising what students are able to create to show their learning when given the opportunity! The availability of an Ipad with these EL students would open that door to create and explore!
