I have been teaching for seventeen years and have experienced the creativity and knowledge that is unleashed when kids have access to a variety of hands-on tools. Kids are able to use concrete objects and tools to understand more abstract thinking and concepts. When learning is experienced by kids, the connections stay with them forever. These materials will enhance my teaching of math and science. They will be able to bring math and science concepts to life. They can use the floor One Hundred chart to physically add and subtract by walking up and down the columns and rows. Use the rekenreks to add numbers and see how addition and subtraction work. They can explore and design using the building tools and even construct geometric shapes. Children abstract ideas from using hands-on tools and kids need to do the work instead of being told what they are going to do. Young children need to experiment with their learning. Young children are capable of so much if given the challenges and experiences to guide them. My students are inquisitive little learners who enjoy learning! The opportunities that they will be able to create with these resources is unimaginable.
