Students will be able to build rectangular prisms and be able to count the blocks to identify the length, width, and height. They can then apply the formula and then break apart the prism to verify the answer. I will also use the extra unifix cubes to form stacked prisms so the students can apply the volume formula with extra prisms. In math students, students that learn and are able to apply the formulas only have surface knowledge and usually do not retain information well. With hands on application students have a deeper understanding of the material and will retain it longer.
