Using the book the Hunger Games will continue to enhance my Reading curriculum all while giving them a action packed book they will love. Most students have saw the movie, but we all know that reading a novel, and bringing your own imagination to life brings ownership to the learning environment. We are currently learning about Utopian and Dystopian Communities. Students are learning how to properly analyze text using a visualization strategy called Optic Strategy. They are also learning how to identify the main idea and compare and contrast utopian and dystopian communities. Reading the Hunger Games will not only tie all these skills together but it will make it more meaningful to the students than reading various articles written in the 18th or 19th century. Bringing relevance to their reading is the key to helping them love to read.
