I am an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher in Porterville, Ca. These past two school years I have been working hard to get my students much more interested in reading. That hard work has been paying off significantly. On a daily basis my students read in class, and this time in class has encouraged them to read at home! So far this school year, my students have read 372 books not including the ones that are forgotten, or don't get written down. 372 books in the school year thus far, is truly amazing!!!! I am very very proud of my students and get a big smile on my face every time I get to type in the next book another student is checking out! For some of my extreme readers, I am running low on books that would fit their desires and preferences, of which I would like to boost up. Also, I am hoping to purchase more books that all of my students can relate to. I am looking to purchase books that would serve as both mirrors and windows for my students, allowing them to see themselves in their stories as well as experience the lives of others. Overall, I am just looking to highly vamp up my book game, and have an even larger library for my students, and for my future students to come. The more books we have, the more choices they will have, and the more likely they will be to pick up a second book....a third....a fourth.....and who knows how many more. I want to foster a deep love for reading in all of my kiddos, and so far that seems to be happening! We are greatly appreciative of you!
