Word work and phonics materials will give our students interactive manipulatives to play and discover words in small groups with their teacher. As a literacy coach, I will support the small groups while working with the classroom teacher. Students will be able to explore the spellings of words, noticing patterns to move words into long-term memory. These word work resources will help our students become stronger readers and writers! We noticed our students in K-1 have a need with decoding words when reading and these resources give them fun tools to practice this skill, while linking with their prior knowledge. Students will be word detectives- investigating patterns in words, manipulating the sounds and letters to create new, related words, and sorting words/sounds to create new connections between the skills they are learning.
