My students (all have cognitive disabilities, sensory sensitivity/needs, and behavioral needs) are noticeably more engaged and happier in the classroom when they have sensory options available for their use. Having multiple options for my students to choose from will also help eliminate behaviors and keep my students calm, happy, and ready to learn throughout the day. I would like to build my sensory station in my room so that my students have a designated area (personal space area) to recharge, refocus, and calm their body so that they may be safe and successful in the classroom. Having items to fidget with, different textures/sizes to hold and/or touch, comfortable seating, and anti-anxiety tools will give my students a safe place to go while at school.
