I strive to keep literature in students hands. The students I teach tend to be very reluctant to read and struggle to see themselves as "readers." Students have been most willing to try a graphic novel. Graphic novels have hit an all time high in popularity. Graphic novels can open an unwilling reader to a world of possibilities! These books delve into history, social injustice, bullying, fantastical worlds, and many more! Students can travel throughout time and space and discover themselves as readers and individuals! These books will give students text to engage them in reading and develop improved reading skills. The visually engaging stories create a gateway to a deeper level of understanding. Students will respond to text through writing and conversation to increase critically thinking and open-mindedness.
