Students will be researching butterfly garden plants for our butterflies. 2nd grade students learn about life cycles, the body parts of a butterfly and how to take care of butterflies. They do this by researching what types of plants butterflies and caterpillars need to survive. After they have completed their research on the best host plants and nectar plants for this area, they get to work planting. They don't just stop there. They take care of the garden by making sure it's watered and free of weeds. The raised garden containers would be much easier to take care of than what they have now. It would also be more aesthetically pleasing. The entire school would benefit from this, not just 2nd grade. What a great way to learn about butterflies!
