Morning choice is a method to create an environment where children feel inspired in their learning from the moment they arrive. It has been proven that morning choice can increase attendance, reduce tardiness, and encourage students to get excited about coming to school. It is necessary in classrooms in order to establish and create positive, stable environments for students to thrive. I have found over the years that boring busy work in the morning is the one area that students struggle with in the daily routine. They are either motivated to finish their morning work or they are not. In addition, I have found that most students who do not naturally have an internal motivation to complete their morning work well or at all, tend to arrive at school late or have overall absent issues. By trying something new and giving students a choice of what they want their morning work to be; not just completing a worksheet, I think students will feel more connected to our classroom, their classmates, and their learning.
