Students with Dyslexia often avoid reading because it is difficult, so their overall exposure to literature is less than that of their peers. Students with Dyslexia also often do not understand what dyslexia is and struggle with self esteem. With our grant request, we are seeking more books that represent neuro-diverse learners, their experiences, and their fears, struggles, and successes. These books will help students learn what dyslexia is, make connections with successful people with dyslexia, gain an accurate self-perception, and recognize their strengths (just to name a few). The books will be used daily in dyslexia groups; teachers will read aloud from the books and nurture conversation that is both academic and socially emotionally focused.
