As a second-year teacher, I am still trying to build up resources. My classroom was recently flooded and the minimal amount of resources I possess were destroyed. The water damaged a lot of books and supplies in my classroom. The library is one of the most beloved and used areas in many classrooms and was greatly damaged by the leaking water. Some of the resources I will be receiving with your donations are books involving many 2nd grade topics such as maps, globes, graphs, spelling skills, math skills, literacy development, outer space, the human body, insects, STEAM activities, phonics and comprehension skills. These books along with binders, dividers, graphic organizers and sheet protectors help me to organize daily lessons and create enriched engaging daily work and activities for students to complete. I use these books to adapt lessons making photocopies of worksheets for students. I will also share resources from these books with team members during professional development meetings. In my classroom, we complete a Myths and Legends unit. At the end of the unit we read books from the "Percy Jackson" series to bring some of our new-found knowledge of Greek myths to use. This is one of our most engaging and exciting units that students have a fun time learning about. We complete other units throughout the school year reading books like "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon," "I am Martin Luther King Jr.," "The Bad Guys" and "Maniac Magee." Having these books will allow students a wider variety when reading independently to keep them engaged and excited about something they are interested in and I use these books to read aloud to the class to support units of study. Your donations will help make a difference to the lives of many by donating to our library.
