Island of the Blue Dolphins is a great book for 7th Graders since it tells the story of a brave, young girl struggling to stay alive all by herself on an island off the coast of California. She is a great role model for my students and has a lot of action to hold their interests. Students these days need great role models of characters who don't give up under huge challenges. Additionally, the novel will be used to promote study of the area's wildlife like abalones and elephant seals. Please help me bring this great story to my students.
