Every Friday for the next 13 weeks, students will embark upon a new adventure, a fresh canvas their vehicle. Under Bob Ross's gentle guidance, students will paint along with the "Beauty is Everywhere" series using the wet-on-wet technique. They will exhibit their work at the end of the school year and reflect on Ross's many techniques and classic mantras for life. Students will never forget the magic of their first Bob Ross painting — they likely never imagined creating such captivating, life-like illusions. In today's world of social media that tears teenagers down, the remedy is a tactile, in-the-moment experience; painting with Bob is just that. This is an activity that builds up self esteem and soothes the soul. The materials required are most likely not easily acquired by the average teenager. Thus, for most of them this would be a rare opportunity. I hope the experience opens the door to a new passion for art, and a healthy avenue for releasing stress.
