My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of the students are sheltered or unaware of how their world was shaped and how it affected young people their age. I want to use these nonfiction literature books in literature circles. Students will work in small groups to complete a novel and report back to their class. Students need to learn from the past and find ways to contribute to a strong future. These novels will be used alongside our Anne Frank unit. Students need to know that the horrors that happened to Anne Frank did not stop with just her or her time. The novels chosen are all meant to be compared and contrasted to Anne's life with the hope that students will learn to accept differences and not condemn those differences.
