I am seeking 60 copies of the novel There There by Tommy Orange to teach as the central text for an 11th Grade English unit about local storytelling, in this case about Oakland storytelling. By foregrounding the contemporary and urban Native American experience, novelist Tommy Orange lifts up the voices of Oakland that frequently go unheard; as emerging storytellers, my students will use There There as a mentor text to write their own local stories that aim to center the voices in our city which are frequently left out of the public discourse. Thank you so much for your support and for helping to foster a love of literature in our school community.
