I have an area in my classroom to store needed supplies. Students often come to my classroom to discuss personal matters - supplies will be distributed during this time. Many of my students are distracted by the lack of personal care items at home. Some already feel "singled out" as they are not reading on grade-level yet. Some have the added pressures of being singled out because of lack of personal hygiene items. I'm lucky to have small classes where students are comfortable approaching me with their concerns. Once their personal care is taken care of they are eager to learn!
