You will find The Shawshank Redemption on almost every "Best Movies of All Time" list, but very few people know that it's based on Stephen King's "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption." Similarly, "Stand By Me" is easily one of the best coming-of-age films out there, and it's based on Stephen King's, "The Body," from the same collection. In addition to being wonderfully-written and having inspired fantastic films, each of these stories lends itself to a robust non-fiction unit as well. We will study The Innocence Project and prison reform with "Shawshank" and poverty and childhood trauma with "The Body."
