My students over the past couple of years have shown great interest in building things with legos and other materials. I recently went to an EdCamp, and learned about the plus plus blocks that can be used to not only create 3D objects, but can also be used on a light board and traced with a dry erase marker to reveal the shape the student made. I was enamored by the possibilities of how my students can use these materials to emphasize concepts that we are covering in class. They can use these blocks to create farm animals from our farm unit we do every spring, or even 3D letters. The robot kits will also teach them how little parts work together to make a product, just like all the students in our class with their varying personalities and ideas makes our class as wonderful as it is.
Books open up a child's eyes to a world of possibilities. The titles in this project will do just that, teaching my students about seasons, different cultures, parts of speech, and also social-emotional learning. It is crucial to have various titles and genres in a classroom library because students need books that they can relate to.
