Many of my students benefit from the use of read-aloud options that are provided with the use of their Chromebooks. However, as many families are struggling during our tough times facing the pandemic, there are many students who are unable to provide their own headphones or earbuds. Providing students the opportunity to view a video or listen to a read aloud at their own pace greatly improve their autonomy in reading and writing for English. Headphone usage in class will also help students remain engaged in the learning process when the need for videos or read aloud is necessitated as it will help each learner focus on their tasks. Student engagement in the material is key for student achievement. All of my classes are co-taught, and I have a large number of students who are in need of headphones or earbuds to help them meet their individual educational plan goals for the year. Providing headphones for their use is one option that I can give them to greatly increase their chance of meeting the yearly IEP goals.
