By having "read alouds" the students will also foster a strong sense of community, expand vocabulary, support writing, spark conversations, encourage perspective-taking and empathy, as well as open window to other worlds. Each week I will read one or two books with the class to have deep conversations throughout the week about the text, with guiding questions for parents to have conversations at home and/or in a car. My goal is to read enough books that children can have different experiences and conversations with each book. Another goal is to read one or two books a week during the school year. These books will make my classroom literacy-rich!
