The New York Times recently published a terrifying statistic: 2/3 of Millennials don't know about the Holocaust. With your help in purchasing a class set of "The Complete Maus," our 7th-grade students won't be a part of that statistic. I'm looking at creating literature circles, allowing my students to choose a book about the Holocaust to read and analyze. Our problem with this project is that the novels we already have available are at 7th grade or higher reading levels. Over a third of my students read between a 1st to 4th-grade reading level. We want to provide them with a reading option that will interest them, improve their reading levels, and allow them to gain an understanding of the Holocaust. In today's current atmosphere, this is a tragic piece of history that should not be forgotten, lest we allow ourselves to let another event like this to happen. Please help our classrooms learn about the Holocaust, analyze how something like this happened, and then learn how to be engaged in politics to prevent things like this from happening again.
