Spelling can be a very challenging and daunting subject for young students. Through explicit instruction and repetition with varying materials students build towards confident mastery. With the many spelling rules in the English language, the more practice the better. I notice that when my students have the opportunity to practice their spelling in new and exciting ways they internalize the patterns and rules better. From using smelly markers to tracing words in sand trays, building familiarity with words and patterns gives my students the confidence they need to be successful spellers. Technology and new tools are huge motivators in first grade; the simplicity and novelty of practicing spelling patterns on these writing tablets will support my students spelling skills and set them up for future success. The tablets I have selected will be an efficient and entertaining means for my class to practice spelling on a daily basis. They are durable, eco-friendly and user-friendly for young students!
