Our school's outdoor classroom was dedicated in 1991, but was later neglected and essentially abandoned. Our Environmental Science classes began to revitalize the area this school year by using cordless power tools to build compost bins from used pallets and also solar heater panels from old aluminum cans. Right now, our AP classes are creating machines to show potential uses for wind energy. Our students are working hard, and our school community is excited about our efforts, but we need more tools for success! We need an additional cordless drill and driver so more students can work at a given time. We also need a few more basic items, such as hand-held wrenches, to add to our toolkit. Garden and watering hoses along with a timer, will enable us to grow seeds for our future. One of our first priorities is to use seeds contributed by a local seed company in a designated area to support pollinators and wildflowers. This area will contribute to a more balanced ecosystem and our study of native species populations. It will also be especially popular with the photography, visual arts, and other students who share our outdoor classroom.
