Children need a safe calm place to help them cope when upset, especially children who are diagnosed with autism or children who have difficulty managing their anger. Having a fish tank in my counseling office will help to provide that calm safe environment where children can practice mindfulness and self-regulation skills, with the ultimate goal of being able to return to a calm state in which they can learn and grow. Learning how to manage emotions is critical in order to be successful. A fish tank is a calming therapeutic tool for children to utilize to help teach them these skills.
