In a percussion class, you need percussion instruments, right?! Now, in many instances, you would think, don't you have hands and feet? Isn't that percussion enough? Isn't a snare drum enough? And in most cases I definitely would agree. Simplicity is usually the right way to go. But in this case, I am on the mission to guide my students to refine their techniques in the pursuit of becoming truly balanced percussionists. This means having all the equipment in order to widen their breadth of experiences in the land of percussion! My first step in this process is providing my students with concert toms - a very commonly asked for instrument in band and percussion ensemble literature. This way, any tom part will be covered with the appropriate instrument, the appropriate technique will be refined and the intended character will be brought out!
