I'm a first year teacher with a fantastic fifth grade classroom! I started off the year trying different things to reach my students. Anything from wearing different lanyards every day to decorating my classroom with a Fortnite theme. To that end, my students are allowed to make their own choices with regards to seating. We have options to sit on the floor, to take a lap desk to a comfortable spot in the room, or to sit at different tables.
Allowing my students the freedom to choose a seat has been extremely effective in keeping them engaged in their work and has kept disruptive behavior to a minimum. The project that I have chosen will give my students even more seating options and will allow them to make the best choice for their particular learning style. The floor seats will be ideal for my students that like to go grab a clipboard or lap desk and sit around the room. For those that like a little movement, but would rather stay at a desk, the adjustable stools will give them that option.
I want my students to be able to take ownership of their learning choices and have the freedom to do whatever works best for them. These seating options will be a welcome addition to our classroom.
