Making connections between different areas in the brain is the most effective way to learn in my class. It's always exciting to see how students show their thinking about math with pictures, graphs, words, and different examples in their lives. But when they SHOW the math with their bodies - that is when I know that they deeply understand the Big Ideas that we are learning in the class. With these motion sensors, my students will be able to learn about graphing and functions with physical, immersive activities: they will become the graphs themselves! I know that when the students connect their body movement with math, they strengthen their knowledge, and neuroscientists agree with me. This is why I feel it's important for my students to learn some of the most complex Mathematics Ideas (graphing and functions) using their bodies to "walk the graphs". My biggest goal as a teacher is to give students the opportunity to make sense of Math in different contexts. I believe that the use of motion sensors in my class will allow to connect graphing with their lives and with the world around them.
