A teary-eyed student arrives at the nurse's office and quietly asks if she can get a new pair of pants. Her menstrual cycle caught her off-guard and now her clothes are stained. The nurse presents her with an array of discarded hand-me-downs from teachers. She's mortified at the idea of returning to class in ill-fitting clothes that are out-of-style and will obviously attract the ridicule of her peers. She's distraught. Students miss valuable class time and often end up leaving school because they cannot bear the humiliation of not having appropriate clothing to wear. Sometimes it's because of an accident. Sometimes it's because the student's family doesn't have money for decent clothes, or because they lack access to laundry facilities. Providing kids with discreet, age-appropriate options allows them to make a quick change and get back to learning.
